FLINTOFF BELL RINGS ONCE MORE, THIS TIME ATOP BOBBY'S PLACE

The Flintoff Bell rings once again for Waterdown.

After being silent for roughly eight years, the bell had its first official ring on Easter Sunday at Grace Anglican Church after being placed in its new belfry atop Bobby's Place, which is currently under construction.

JUST THE FACTS

• The bell, named in honour of Thomas Flintoft, a lance corporal with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, has been restored above the Mill Street North church building after it was removed for safety reasons.

• When the church decided to build a multi-purpose addition, it was decided that the bell would find a new home there. Bobby's Place, named in honour of 10-yearold Bobby Smylie, who died in 2018 of influenza, is nearing completion.

• Flooring and washroom are complete and the kitchenette has been installed. Next to come will be the cedar ceiling and hanging light fixtures. On the exterior, work on fascias and soffits is outstanding. There are also repairs happening on the old church's stonework.

• Following the building work, the construction teams will level out the ground that will sit and settle over the summer before an interlocking brick pathway featuring engraved bricks will be laid down.

• The community can support the build by purchasing a memorial brick. Visit graceanglicanwaterdown.org for details.

• The completion of Bobby's Place is expected to be sometime this fall. Grace Anglican Church will host a grand opening event.
