CANADA DAY CELEBRATION HAPPENING IN BRAMPTON

The City of Brampton will be hosting a Canada Day celebration at Chinguacousy Park on Saturday, July 1.

Residents will get to enjoy several family-friendly activities, delicious food, main stage performances, and a fireworks display during the event, which will run from 12 noon to 10 p.m.

Here's what's in store:

FUN, FAMILY-FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES | 12 noon to 10 p.m.

There will be several fun-filled activities for the entire family to enjoy, including inflatable rides, slides and games, mini golf, and the various amenities the park has to offer, including playgrounds, skate park, paddle boat rentals and beach volleyball courts, among others.

The public will also get to savour delicious eats in the food zone. Local retail vendors offering various products and services, ranging from food and beverages to jewelry and martial arts, will be there for the public to shop and support.

LIVE ENTERTAINMENT | 6 to 10 p.m.

The Chinguacousy Swing Orchestra and Brampton Folk Club will entertain visitors all afternoon with music near the paddle boat pavilion. New this year, a community dance showcase will feature local Brampton dance organizations and schools.

At 6 p.m., there will be musical performances live from the main stage, hosted by media personality, entrepreneur and culture contributor Jesse Jones.

Stage programming will begin with a land acknowledgment by Legacy Keepers at Central Peel Secondary School and a healing song and smudging by Four Colours Drum Circle, Elder Winterhawk and Cidalia Costa.

Performing at this year's Canada Day mainstage are international touring and award-winning band Wicked Truth, Juno Award- winners and Indigenous artists Digging Roots and a headlining performance by The Jim Cuddy Band.

A fireworks show, presented by Tim Hortons, will take place at 10 p.m.

BRAMPTON TRANSIT SHUTTLES

Brampton Transit shuttle services will be free and run every 30 minutes starting at noon at one of the four shuttle locations — Mount Pleasant GO Station, Trinity Common

Mall, Sheridan College and Gore Meadows Community Centre.

On-site parking will be limited. Eventgoers are encouraged to walk, ride their bikes, park at alternative locations, or use the free shuttle service offered by Brampton Transit for the day.

PARKING

Limited parking is available on-site at a rate of $20 per vehicle on a first-come, first-serve basis. Debit and credit only. No cash will be accepted.

Alternative parking locations within proximity to Chinguacousy Park are available at Bramalea City Centre, Brampton Civic Centre, Greenbriar Recreation Centre, Lester B. Pearson Catholic School, St. Jean Brebeuf Catholic School, Terry Miller Recreation Centre, Hanover Public School, Hilldale Public School, Goldcrest Public School and Chinguacousy Secondary School.

FIREWORKS SAFETY

The city is reminding residents that under the new fireworks bylaw, fireworks are no longer permitted in Brampton, with the exception of city-led events.
