Trillium Health Partners has reached a major milestone in expanding the future home of the Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre after receiving the City of Toronto's official site plan statement of approval.

"We are grateful for the support of the City of Toronto and the community as we move forward. Trillium Health Partners is an essential part of our health-care system, and this new hospital expansion will help ensure that our residents have access to the best possible care," said Karli Farrow, president and CEO, in a news release.

This expansion of the Queensway Health Centre will establish a modern, dedicated centre for complex continuing care and rehabilitation services, enabling patients to receive care and recover closer to home. Once completed, the Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre will feature a nine-storey, 600,000-squarefoot facility with space for over 350 beds, all in private rooms.

"This project is a great example of what happens when we all work together," said Etobicoke-Lakeshore MPP Christine Hogarth in

the release. "I am proud to support Trillium Health Partners and the important work they do in providing state-of-the-art patient care."

Site plan approval is part

of the planning approvals process and has come about after many years of planning, design and engagement work, the agency said in the release. Work will continue with the city and

partners to complete design plans followed by building permit approvals, financial close and construction start, which is anticipated in 2024.

The Queensway Health

Centre expansion addresses the growth in the community, and provides patients with the specialized care they need, closer to home, THP states on its website.
