CHARGES LAID IN HISTORIC SEXUAL ASSAULT AT PICKERING'S ROTHERGLEN CENTRE

Durham Regional Police have laid charges after a victim reported a 1984 assault.

The female victim came forward in February 2022 to report an alleged sexual assault by an employee of the Rotherglen Centre in Pickering in 1984. The victim, who was 15 years old, alleges the assault happened at the youth detention centre.

Shyleem Khan, 77, of Wellington County, Ont., is facing two counts of sexual assault and two counts of gross indecency.

Police want to ensure there are no further victims. Anyone with information related to Mr. Khan is urged to contact police as soon as possible. Anyone with information that could help investigators can contact Det. Connolly of the Major Crime — Special Victims Unit at 1-888579-1520 ext. 5339.
