TREAT, PET AND ZOMBIE WALK SET TO HAUNT WATERDOWN OCT. 29

JULIA LOVETT-SQUIRES jlovett@flamborough review.com

Waterdown beware, zombies will give you a scare.

The Waterdown Village BIA Treat and Pet and Zombie Walk is coming up and everyone is invited for some boo-tastic fun in the village on Saturday, Oct. 29

"We invite people to bring their kids dressed up in costumes, their pets dressed up in costumes and to come on down and collect treats at some of our businesses," said Waterdown Village BIA executive director Susan Pennie, who noted it will be the first time the zombie walk has been included and it was a way to expand the day's fun.

Here's what to expect this year:

TREAT WALK

Dress up your kids and pets for a family- and petfriendly walk where you can show off your amazing costumes. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., you can collect treats from participating businesses — look for purple balloons out front — from designated treat stations.

There will be a treat station in the Waterdown Legion parking lot at 79 Hamilton St. N., where treat bags of donations from local businesses will be available, as well as musical entertainment from Andy G. & Friends and Halloweenthemed games and activities. Another treat station will be located at 35 Main

St. N., near the Jitterbug Cafe and Tea at the White House. Collect treat bags of donations from local businesses, enjoy balloon twisting with Bee Bop the Clown and Halloween-themed crafts.

PET WALK AND PARADE

Register your pet for the best costume contest from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. — and you can also have your pet learn a new trick in a group session with trainers from True Instinct Dog Training at 12:40.

A new addition to the pet-walk this year is the pet parade at 1 p.m.

"We'll have a small route around (Waterdown) Memorial Hall and up Main Street where if anybody wants to come down, if they don't have kids that are participating and they just want to see some cute kids dressed up and some pets they can watch the pet parade," said Pennie.

Following the parade at 1:30 p.m., prizes will be handed out for the best pet costumes, so be sure to get creative. The fun all takes place in the Pet Party Zone at 313 and 315 Dundas St. E.

ZOMBIE WALK

New this year, be prepared to see zombies as they will be walking up Main Street at 12:30 p.m.

"We're hoping there'll be some participants, some "Walking Dead" fans and people that just like the idea of being a zombie that will participate," said Pennie. "The Royal Coachman Pub will be our zombie zone this year and we have some face painters, so if people don't want to come down already dressed up, they can come down and get some zombie makeup."

Those interested can get

zombified at the Royal Coachman patio from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., with face painting. You can also enjoy some free spirit-free zombie punch, street magic with Magic by Tyler Fergus and a monster mash-up led by Waterdown Dancers' Inc. and Free2Be Wellness

Zumba dancers.

Then, at 12:40 p.m. get ready to be one of the walking dead — as the Zombie Walk takes place up Main Street!
