In Niagara, you can easily find rows of grape vines and peach trees that stretch as far as the eye can see. But if you want to check out a crop of callaloo, you may have no other option but to visit Winnie Muchuba's community garden plot in Smithville.
Muchuba is originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and moved to Canada in 2013. Last year she got a plot at the Smithville community garden and planted some callaloo, a vegetable she grew up eating and one that she compares to spinach.
"For me, I'm planting some African seeds to try to feel like home," she said. She also has some eggplants, another popular vegetable from back home.
