AJAX FLOODING MORE LIKELY

To the editor: Well, the draft new Durham Region Official Plan has been promulgated for adoption by council in the next two months. And what a surprise to see the headwaters of Carruthers Creek slated for sprawl development. Once Durham council grossly over-designated 9,000 acres for urban boundary expansion, this was inevitable.

A study by the Toronto Region Conservation Authority shows that development on the headwaters will increase flooding downstream in Ajax by 70 per cent. Apparently, no one cares even though ordinary citizens and taxpayers will pay the bill. The politicians are listening to the profit-motivated developers and not their own citizens. Even our brand new MPP for Ajax supports the destruction of the headwaters and seems indifferent to the interests of her constituents. Well, I guess she works for Mr. Ford and not for us.

Well people, this isn't Russia, it's Canada. It's up to you. Are you going to let politicians working for developers get away with this? You better speak up now. This ship is about to sail.
