EAT IMPACT SAYS IT OFFERS TO BATTLE FOOD WASTE WITH FOOD DELIVERY

TIM KELLY tkelly@durhamregion.com

There are plenty of fresh-food order options for customers these days.

But a new business that has just opened with a location in Whitby says it has something different to offer consumers.

Eat Impact says it has fresh fruit and vegetables to order in boxes in all shapes and sizes: and that's the fruit and vegetables, not just the boxes.

Eat Impact says it is also attempting to try to curb food waste which the business says is caused for a number of reasons:

• fruits and vegetables that are perfectly fresh and delicious but that "don't look quite right by retail standards" get left behind:

• modern consumers expect fresh produce avail

able year-round on demand. Farmers are left with a surplus that is often wasted.

Eat Impact said it works with farmers and distributors to find "perfectly fresh imperfect surplus fruit and vegetables" that it can deliver to your door.

And it adds that with rising inflation that is costing food for the average Canadian family to increase by 28 per cent since 2020 and a projected increase of $1,065 in 2023, it can help save you money with its service.

"We are on a mission to build a more sustainable food system and help people eat well, do good and save money," Eat Impact Founder Anna Stegink shared.

"The produce Eat Im

pact delivers is always fresh and sometimes funny," Stegink shared. "Over the past weeks, the boxes have included curvy cucumbers, twisty carrots, giant parsnips, tiny beets and oranges with slight superficial scarring on the skin."

Eat Impact offers a variety of produce boxes starting at $19.95 for a box with 8 to 10 types of perfectly fresh, rescued fruit and veg. The produce selection varies weekly and customers can customize their box to swap items they don't want or need with ones they love.
