ONTARIO REGIMENT MUSEUM EXPANSION PLANS FOR OSHAWA AIRPORT

JENNIFER O'MEARA jomeara@durham region.com

The Ontario Regiment Museum wants to expand its use of the South Field at the Oshawa Executive Airport. Here's the plan: • For 75 years, the Ontario Regiment has used two buildings and land at the south end of the Oshawa airport as a base for local training.

• The buildings served as classrooms, offices, a tank hangar, an air raid shelter, and a compound to store historic military vehicles over the years.

• At the south airport lands, the Ontario Regiment has trained squadrons in reconnaissance, gas warfare, foot patrols and infantry tactics.

• In 2019, the city did a

South Field Master Plan Study at the airport. It said that if any expansion proposal was submitted by the museum there should be a public meeting to get feedback.

Oshawa is seeking public comments on the plans for the south field. A public meeting will be held.

When: Monday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m.

Where: An in-person public meeting will take place in the council chamber, Oshawa City Hall, 50 Centre St. S. The meeting will also be available virtually at calendar.oshawa.ca/meetings. How to weigh in: • The public can attend the in-person meeting to speak. Those who wish to speak through electronic means (rather than in-person) should submit their request to speak to the City Clerk Services at clerks@oshawa.ca by Wednesday, May 4 at 4:30 p.m.

• To submit a written comment for consideration, contact Laura Brown at labrown@oshawa.ca or via mail at Oshawa City Hall, 50 Centre St. S., Oshawa, Ontario L1H 3Z7 before the public meeting.
