MULRONEY IGNORING CALLS TO PROTECT LAKE SIMCOE

As executive director of the Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition, I provide a voice for the lake and its communities that is evidencebased, informed and not self-serving.

I have successfully worked with government officials of different political affiliations for over 15 years. Those officials knew that gathering information from a variety of concerned stakeholders has led to better decisions and has kept our democracy strong.

However, my experience with the Ford government, and York-Simcoe MPP and Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney in particular, shows there is little respect for democracy and no desire to hear from informed voices.

This makes me believe there is little concern for Lake Simcoe beyond empty media talking points.

Announcements that directly threaten the health of Lake Simcoe are coming fast and furious: Bradford Bypass, Greenbelt removals, reduced protection for endangered species and wetlands, promotion of sprawl. These are significant changes, some reversing decades of progressive policy.

It's clear that they don't seem very interested in protecting Lake Simcoe. That should make all of us very concerned about whose interests our members of provincial Parliament are actually serving.
