COUNTY INVITING ARTISTS TO ENTER FOR PHASE 2 OF PADDLE ART TOUR HALDIMAND

TAMARA BOTTING tbotting@sachem.ca

The Paddle Art Tour Haldimand, which was introduced to the community last year, is being expanded.

Currently, there are 24 wooden paddles decorated with artwork from 23 different local artists installed at various locations throughout the county. Each paddle has signage installed that includes the name of the artist, the title of their work, and a QR code with more information about the locations of the other paddles and the artists involved.

Now, six more paddles are being added to the tour, and the county is putting the call out to both emerging and established artists from the area.

Artists who want their designs to be considered for the new paddles are asked to submit a sketch of what they'd like to paint on one of the paddles, along with a written description of the image.

The art on each paddle portrays a facet of what makes Haldimand unique: the area's natural landscapes, wildlife, history, etc.

Each of the paddles are handmade by local high school students, with a blade surface of 71 cm by 17.8 cm; the paddles will be installed with the handle upright.

Interested artists can send submissions electronically to partnerships@haldimandcounty.on.ca, in person or by

mail to the Haldimand County Administration Building c/o Community Development & Partnerships, 53 Thorburn St. S., Cayuga, Ont., N0A 1E0.

The closing date for submissions is July 7 at 4 p.m. and selected artists will be notified by July 14.

Selected artists will receive an honorarium of $500.
