FOUR-DAY WORK WEEK HAS DOWNSIDES
DIANE SULLIVAN
Though there is benefit to both women and men to the four-day work week, advocates have not considered other implications to this idea.
The entire education system would need to be changed, as the majority of elementary school teachers are still women, and therefore schools could not run without them.
Parents would not like teens out of school an extra day. Women who work nights in hospitals, hotels, airlines and so forth already have difficulty getting child care for the night shift.
Instead, society needs to acknowledge and pay women equally and a decent wage for the hard work they do, such as nursing and unpaid care of disabled and elderly family members.
