SERIOUS INJURIES AFTER ROLLOVER COLLISION IN AMARANTH

JEEP ROLLED OVER INTO CREEK, OCCUPANTS FREED BY QUICK-ACTING OFF-DUTY OFFICER

Two people were taken to the hospital — with one being airlifted for treatment of life-threatening injuries — after a jeep rolled over into a creek following a two-vehicle collision in Amaranth Wednesday evening.

And if not for a quick-acting off-duty OPP officer on the scene, the outcome could have been very different.

At around 6:15 p.m. May 11, emergency responders were called to the collision at the intersection of County Road 10 and Mono-Amaranth Townline. The initial investigation determined that two passenger vehicles collided in the intersection, resulting in both leaving the roadway. One of the vehicles, a jeep, rolled over and came to a rest on its roof, submerged in a small creek. An off-duty OPP officer was the first on scene and saw that both occupants had their heads submerged in water. The officer acted quickly, cutting their seatbelts and freeing the victims from the water.

The jeep driver was taken to an area hospital and was later airlifted by Ornge to a trauma centre with lifethreatening injuries. The passenger was taken to an area hospital before being transported by land ambulance to a trauma centre with unknown injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The OPP Traffic Collision Investigation team was brought in to investigate, which resulted in sections of County Road 10 and MonoAmaranth Townline being closed for several hours before being reopened during the course of the night.

The investigation is continuing and anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Dufferin OPP at 1-888-3101122.

Anyone who witnessed the collision and wishes to speak to victim services, can do so by calling Caledon/Dufferin Victim Services at 905-951-3838.
