It was a loud burst and billowing black smoke that alerted residents in the area of Edelwild Drive a fire had broken out at one of the homes on the street over the weekend — a fire that resulted in about a halfmillion dollars in damage.

The blaze began as a vehicle fire early in the afternoon, with a call coming through to Orangeville Fire at 12:36 p.m. on Saturday, May 14.

Loud bursts could be heard in the area as neighbours watched the fire spread quickly from the vehicle

to a boat and onto the house itself.

OPP and Orangeville Fire were both on the scene as firefighters worked to battle the blaze.

Fire Chief Ron Morden told the Orangeville Banner 30 firefighters were on site to put out the fire. Caledon, Grand Valley, and Shelburne fire services were present to assist.

A portion of Edelwild Drive was closed to vehicular traffic and pedestrians until later in the evening.

"There was approximately $500,000 worth of damages from the outdoor contents, contents of the house and portion of the house," said Morden. "The fire was ruled accidental and there were no injuries."
