Skelly was elected to Hamilton city council in 2016. She was councillor for Ward 7. She served on numerous committees, including as chairperson of the audit, finance and administration committee. She was elected MPP for Flamborough-Glanbrook in June 2018. She was appointed parliamentary assistant (PA) to the minister of economic development, job creation and trade and most recently as PA to the attorney general.

A minus, because more than 90 per cent of residents over the age of 12 are fully vaccinated, one of the highest vaccination rates in the world. Throughout the pandemic, over 3,000 hospital beds have been created. More than 58,000 new and upgraded long-term-care (LTC) beds are in the pipeline, including 1,700 LTC beds in Hamilton alone.
