ANOTHER BATTLE LOST

Mpearson@hamiltonnews.com

For the third straight year, there will be no Re-enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek on the grounds of Battlefield House Museum and Park.

City spokesperson Michelle Shantz confirmed the re-enactment, held to commemorate a nighttime strike by British forces against American invaders on June 5-6, 1813, won't be resuming this year. The event would have been held on the weekend of June 3-5.

Shantz said in an email that instead of a full-scale re-enactment or a scaled-down version of the event, the battle re-enactment will be commemorated with a short documentary film on Cable 14, with a target air date of July 1.

Due to the lead time required for planning and the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 restrictions, Shantz said Battlefield House Museum and Park and its community partners opted to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the re-enactment with a documentary film rather than an in-person re-enactment.
