SNOW DAY IN HAMILTON AREA
MARK NEWMAN mnewman@ hamiltonnews.com
Hamilton residents woke up to the first major snowstorm of the winter Jan 17.
The low-pressure system tracking from south of the Great Lakes was forecast to bring blizzard conditions and 40 to 50 cm of snow to the region through the day before tapering off late in the afternoon.
Environment Canada warned blizzard conditions with heavy snow and strong winds could result in widespread near-zero visibility.
Peak snowfall rates were expected to be in the range of eight to 10 centimetres per hour Monday morning.
