HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT RICHMOND HILL RIDING

Progressive Conservative Daisy Wai is seeking re-election in the 2022 provincial election for the second term in the Richmond Hill riding.

THE RIDING

The Richmond Hill riding is bordered by Highway 407 to the south, Highway 404 to the east, Elgin Mills Road, Shirley Drive and Major Mackenzie Road to the north and Bathurst Street to the west.

With a population of 110,177 as of 2016, the Richmond Hill riding has a good mix of ethnic diversity. One third of its population identified themselves as Chinese making it the largest ethnic group in the riding.

Meanwhile, there were 13,260 residents who identified as Iranian, making up for more than 12 per cent of the population in the riding.

THE RACE

PROGRESSIVE CONSERVATIVE: DAISY WAI

Daisy Wai was elected as the Member of Provincial Parliament for the Riding of Richmond Hill on June 7, 2018.

Wai has been serving the community for over 25 years. In addition to being a local business owner, she has sat on various boards including York Regional Police Services, Mackenzie Health, Central Community Care Access Centre, Easter Seals Society and SEDI (Self-employment Development Initiative). A resident of Richmond Hill, Daisy is married and has 4 children and 7 grandchildren, who give her much joy, encouragement and support. Along with politics, Wai enjoys serving her community and church alongside her husband, Albert Wai.

"The Ontario PCS will get it done for the people of Richmond Hill by rebuilding our economy, building key infrastructure, and keeping costs down."

LIBERAL PARTY: ROOZBEH FARHADI

Farhadi and his wife have been involved in Richmond Hill for over ten years, learning about the challenges facing their neighbours and the community, while also celebrating its vibrancy.

Immigrating from Iran to Toronto at a young age with his parents and siblings, Farhadi has been working hard to make the most of the opportunities provided to him. Vowing to give back to the country that has given him so much, Farhadi has spent his adult life helping those who need a hand.

"I am running to be Richmond Hill's trusted champion to ensure our community has the best health care, education, and seniors care so that every person has the opportunity to thrive."

GREEN PARTY: HASEN NICANFAR

Hasen Nicanfar is running for the Green Party of Ontario to be a strong voice for the riding of Richmond Hill. NDP: RAYMOND BHUSHAN Raymond is a full-time student at the University of Toronto. He recently finished his second year in the Lassonde Mineral Engineering program. Raymond has volunteered on political campaigns since 2019, including campaigning for Brian Chang during the 2020 by-election and 2021 federal election in Toronto Centre. "I will not disrespect Richmond Hill, unlike Doug Ford who approved luxury projects that solely benefit wealthy developers, at our expense."

NEW BLUE: LES HOFFMAN

Hoffman was a small business owner in technology from 1984 to 2004 when he was able to work with many small to medium size enterprises in Ontario. Richmond Hill was home to his business for over 15 years."never before have I felt the urgent need to have my voice heard to protect the future of our country and the lives of future generations."

ONTARIO PARTY: BIOUCKZADEH

Biouckzadeh is an Iranian-canadian and a loving father of three. He immigrated to Canada as a toddler and his family sought a better life and more opportunities in this country. Biouckzadeh graduated from Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University, with a Marketing Major and Entrepreneurship Minor. For nearly two decades now, he have been managing their familyowned car dealership.

THE ISSUES

Housing affordability and residential development are among the key issues that face the Richmond Hill riding. With an estimated population of 213,700 in 2021, the City of Richmond Hill is expected to be home to 319,600 people in 2051, providing 122,800 jobs. Development been a continued source of contention between residents and decision-makers

he Government of Ontario has recently issued an enhanced minister's zoning order to fast-track the High tech transit-oriented community (TOC) which has prompted public outrage.

Meanwhile, other key issues include traffic, tax, long-term care as well as climate change.

BACKGROUND

Richmond Hill is a provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since the 2007 provincial election.

It was created in 2003 from parts of Oak Ridges riding.

Progressive conservative Daisy Wai is the incumbent in Richmond Hill, after garnering more than 22,000 votes in the 2018 provincial election. She defeated her Liberal component Reza Moridi who represented the riding from 2007 to 2018.
