THREE CHARGED FOLLOWING DISCOVERY OF ILLEGAL GROW OP

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) has made a significant seizure of illegal drugs in Renfrew.

On May 5, members of the Street Crime Unit, Organized Crime Enforcement Unit, Provincial Asset Forfeiture Unit, Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team, Contraband Tobacco Enforcement Team and the Emergency Response Team assisted by Renfrew Detachment officers executed a search warrant at a location on Highway 132, in Admaston/Bromley Township. Three people were arrested at that location, the site of the former Pepsi plant.

"Police seized more than 7,600 cannabis marijuana plants and approximately 200 grams of dried cannabis marijuana, as well as Canadian currency and other property items associated with this investigation," reads an OPP press release.

Wei Lin, 39, of Scarborough, Xing Xiao, 60, of Scarborough, and Junjie Xue, 59, of Scarborough have all been charged with the following offences:

• Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 contrary to section 354 (1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC),

• Cultivate, propagate or harvest more than four plants at one time in dwellinghouse contrary to section 12(5) of the Cannabis Act and,

• Cultivate, propagate or harvest any cannabis plant at a place that is not their dwelling-house contrary to section 12(6) (a) of the Cannabis Act.

The charges have not been proven in court. Each of the accused were released on an undertaking to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Renfrew on July 6.
