FIVE THINGS TO DO IN NORTH DURHAM OVER THE NEXT WEEK

INFORMATION FAIR FOR OLDER ADULTS, SPRING SEEDS AND LIVE ENTERTAINMENT ON TAP

Looking for something to do in North Durham over the next week? Here are five ideas for the week of March 23 to 29:

1) A Seniors' Information Fair will be held Saturday, March 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the community hall in the Uxbridge Arena, 291 Brock St. W. The free fair is an opportunity for older adults to engage with a variety of businesses, organizations and service clubs operating in Uxbridge. There will also be three 45-minute presentations and followup discussions that will provide important information on fraud and scam prevention, brain health and falls prevention. Those presentations will be held at 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m. For more information, email Jennifer Noble at jnoble@uxbridge.

2) Seedy Saturday will be held at the Pefferlaw Lions Community Centre, 38 Pete's Lane, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 25. There is free admission to the event, which will be co-hosted by the Beaverton, Cannington and GeorginaBrock garden clubs. There will be a variety of seeds, seedlings, vendors, speakers, children's activities, products, produce, art and refreshments available.

3) The Resound Choir will present "Songs My Mother Taught Me" at the Town Hall Theatre on March 25 with performances at 3 and 7 p.m. The choir focuses on motherhood, femininity and the experiences of women during the pandemic and beyond. This multimedia performance will feature movement, poetry and three new choral commissions by female Ontarian composers. The choir is asking for donations to support The Rose of Durham, the YWCA and the Women's Multicultural Resource and Counselling Centre. All three service organizations are in need of grocery store vouchers (including Walmart) and feminine hygiene products. Please bring your items to the concert.

Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for youth (under 25) and can be purchased online at www.townhalltheatre.ca or at the box office at 302 Queen St.

4) North Durham Nature will take a look at bird banding at its next meeting on March 28. Bird Banding — A Research Tool for Understanding Bird Migration will feature a discussion led by Brian Joyce, who will take participants behind the scenes of the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory. Established in 1995, this research station is situated on a National Wildlife Area in Milford near Lake Ontario.

Joyce will explain how birds are captured, recorded and safely released. Learn how this globally significant birding area attracts an abundance of song birds, butterflies and saw-whet owls every year. The meeting is free

and will begin at 7 p.m. at the Scugog Memorial Public Library, 231 Water St. For more information, visit https:// www.northdurhamnature.

5) Mayor Wilma Wotten will headline the next Scugog Chamber of Commerce meeting on March 28. The chamber of commerce will hold the 2023 edition of its Mayor's Luncheon at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre, 1655 Reach St., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's anticipated that the Scugog mayor will discuss what to expect at the township in 2023.

As well, the chamber of commerce will hold its annual general meeting at that time, and participants can expect to hear updates about the merchant group and swearing in of the 2023 board of directors. Tickets are $35 for chamber members and $40 for nonmembers. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.scugogchamber.ca.
