SCUGOG SPORTS HALL OF FAME ADDS NEW SLATE OF INDUCTEES

The Scugog Sports Hall of Fame welcomed a new slate of inductees at its first ceremony since the start of the pandemic.

More than 200 people filled the Scugog Community Centre on April 21 when the Hall of Fame welcomed equestrians Ian Roberts, Kelly Plitz and Waylon Roberts, television sportscaster Kate Beirness and a number of teachers and coaches from R.H. Cornish Public School.

The evening also acknowledged local up-andcoming athletes Alexandra McDougall and Justin Matthews and paid tribute to the volunteer efforts of Jackie Barr, Ian Morrison, Ann Powell, Dawn Price and Dave Weller. As well, the Hall of Fame ceremony honoured the Port Perry Snowmobile Club and Port Perry MoJacks hockey club for 50 years in the community, as well as the 25th anniversary of the Blackstock Men's Hockey League.

Gary Edgar was the evening's keynote speaker.

"We were very impressed with the number of people who appreciate the significance of honouring our sports history and who chose to be a part of this year's event," said Leanne Ashbridge, chair of the Hall of Fame. "Every year we strive to make this a must-attend event and with the help of our amazing committee hopefully we reach that goal. It just makes total sense to honour the great achievements of our local athletes."

The 2022 induction ceremony also marked the first time sponsors participated in presentations. This year's sponsors included Robert Young Stables, The Callery Group/Village Decor Shoppe, Debbie Taylor from Royal Lepage Frank Real Estate, Precision Con

struction and the Lake Scugog Historical Society.

The Scugog Sports Hall of Fame is currently seeking sponsors for its summer exhibit.
