READER UNIMPRESSED WITH CLINIC CHANGES

AJAX

I am a regular blood donor; I have donated 187 times now.

I live in Ajax but since COVID have made my donations at the permanent Canadian Blood Services (CBS) clinic, 1300 Harmony Rd. N., Oshawa. During the past six months, operations were temporarily moved across the road to a vacant store while an expansion and refurbishment of the permanent clinic was made.

Today (May 6) was my first visit back at 1300 Harmony

and I was appalled by the changes. The clinic, as before, can still only service six donors at a time, while the changes made speak loudly of wasted space, wasted time and wasted money — all funded by taxpayers' dollars.

But what really got my blood boiling was when the phlebotomist, (the one who is trained to perform blood draws), told me she had been driven into work that day by taxi from Bloor and Christie streets, Toronto, at a cost of $160, all paid by CBS. It must be nice to have an employer who will do that.

Sad to say, this can only be bad PR for a need that is so great!
