RIDE CHECKS LEAD TO IMPAIRED ARREST

Recent RIDE checks in Peterborough have led to an impaired driving charge including one arrest on St. Patrick's Day.

On March 17, Peterborough Police conducted RIDE checks in several locations. Police say 526 vehicles were checked and 52 approved screening device tests were administered. One impaired arrest was made. One warn with a three-day licence suspension was also handed out.

The impaired arrest occurred around 11 p.m. when officers pulled a vehicle over as part of the RIDE program.

As a result of the stop, a 26-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired - alcohol

• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was issued a 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court, April 12, 2023.

RIDE checks continued on March 18. Police say 25 vehicles were checks and 13 approved screening device tests were administered. One warn with a three-day licence suspension was issued.

Peterborough Police remind residents that the RIDE program continues throughout the year. Motorists are reminded to never drive impaired. If you do see a possible impaired driver, please call 91-1.
