PETERBOROUGH-KAWARTHA CANDIDATE PROFILE: ROBERT GIBSON, GREEN PARTY

NAME: Robert Gibson

RIDING: Peterborough-Kawartha

PARTY: Green Party

AGE: 33

OCCUPATION: Janitor, Free lance

RESIDENCE: City of Peterborough

PAST POLITICAL EXPERIENCE:

"I made delegations to City Council, a provincial committee as well as protesting environmental deregulation and wrote articles. I have been on Oshawa's Environmental Advisory committee, assisted with the development of Trent Central Student Association policies. I have also volunteered within politically minded social justice organizations which are non-partisan."

HOW WOULD YOU GRADE THE PROVINCE'S COVID-19 RESPONSE AND WHY?

"I would give an F grade. The current and past governments failed to prepare for a pandemic despite being warned. The Pandemic Response Plan has not been updated since 2006. The pandemic was used as an excuse to eliminate environmental rights. Late action resulted in deaths. Expert advice is not being followed because masks are not required in essential work environments and public health restrictions are being completely lifted despite widespread COVID-19."

IF ELECTED (RE-ELECTED), I PROMISE TO...:

"We can't afford to wait! As MPP, I will work for policies that reduce climate change while improving affordability and health. We will stop the sprawl by providing rural and urban municipalities with funding for supplying energy efficient affordable homes with social and health services for those who need them, in neighbourhoods where there is more choice, including duplexes and triplexes and service and retail businesses. Also, 50 per cent provincial funding support for transit operations costs, while increasing frequency and reduce fossil fuel transport. More support for walking and biking! I will reverse

Ministerial Zoning orders which overrode planning, took away public rights, and destroyed wetlands. Disability supports will double. We will have a basic income guarantee. We will ensure that workers have access to paid sick days in order to reduce transmission of illness. The recommendations of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls will be implemented."
