2 FIRES IN THE PAST MONTH HAVE BEEN LINKED TO THE SAME PERSON

A 28-year-old man is facing arson charges after a pair of incidents in Oshawa.

On Tuesday, Feb. 14, at about 7 p.m., a fire was set in a garbage bin in the area of Athol and Albert streets. Durham Regional Police Service said the blaze caused significant damage to an adjacent building.

On Monday, March 13, at about 11 p.m., another garbage bin was set on fire in the area of Athol and Celina streets, again causing significant damage to a building, police said.

The investigation found that both fires were believed to be caused by the same person and both were deemed arson.

Brandon Haynes, of no fixed address, has been charged with two counts each of arson, mischief over $5,000, possession of incendiary material for arson and failing to comply with a probation order.

He was held for a bail hearing.
