DURHAM POLICE LAY HUNDREDS OF CHARGES AFTER WARRANTS EXECUTED

More than 200 people were arrested after Durham Regional police executed 434 search warrants and laid more than 700 charges in an investigation.

Dubbed Project Tundra, the seven-week investigation ran from January to March and was led by the Offender Management

Unit.

The investigation focused on people wanted for outstanding arrest warrants for offences that happened in Durham Region, the police said.

Officers travelled across southern Ontario to find and arrest some of the offenders, police noted.

Police laid 193 charges for failing to attend court and 221 individuals were arrested for various offences, including sexual assault, sexual exploitation and aggravated assault.

One of those charged was Peter Lucifora, 57, from Oshawa, who was still living in the area when he was arrested. He was charged with sexual assault stemming from an Incident that occurred between 2007 and 2008, police said.

During the investigation police discovered that Lucifora had legally changed his name to Peter Haufe after the incident.

He was arrested on the outstanding warrant.
