POLICE TRY TO IDENTIFY SUSPECT IN VIOLENT ROBBERY OF SENIOR

Police are trying to identify a suspect in the violent robbery of an elderly woman in Oshawa.

The senior was walking on a pathway in the area of William and Division Streets around 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, when she was pushed to the ground by a suspect who took her purse, Durham police said. The suspect fled the scene on a bicycle.

The suspect is white with a slim build and wore a ball cap and black pants with no shirt.

OSHAWA MAN FACING GUN-RELATED, IMPAIRED CHARGES

An Oshawa man is facing a number of gun-related charges after a traffic stop.

On Thursday, Sept. 8 at about 2:45 a.m., Durham police were conducting a mobile RIDE program in the area of King Street East and Townline Road North. Officers saw a white SUV heading west on King Street and stopped the vehicle, police said.

The driver was arrested after failing a roadside screening, police noted, adding a loaded firearm was found and seized.

Mascud Asser, 27, was charged with several firearm and other related charges, including operation while impaired – exceed blood alcohol concentration, possession of a loaded restricted/prohibited firearm, occupying a motor vehicle with a firearm and possession of a restricted/prohibited firearm no licence or registration certificate.

He was held for a bail hearing.

OSHAWA MAN FACING IMPAIRED CHARGES AFTER HITTING PARKED TRUCK, HOUSE

A man is facing impaired driving charges after a car slammed into another vehicle and then a house in Oshawa.

The incident happened at about 11:20 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9 in the Sommerville and Beatrice streets area, Durham police said in a tweet.

Witnesses told police they saw a silver Kia travelling at a high rate of speed in the northbound lanes of Somerville, police said.

The motorist lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the southbound lanes and slammed into a parked truck in a driveway, police noted, adding the impact caused the parked truck to hit the residence and cause significant damage.

When officers arrived, they noticed signs of impairment and the man was arrested.

A 51-year-old Oshawa man has been charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance, operation while impaired by alcohol and operation while impaired -- exceeding 80.
