FIRE ANTS TAKING EGGS

Columnist Margaret Carney notes "the first European fire ants in Ontario were discovered in Meaford in 1970 and they've been spreading ever since, apparently." A reader, Craig Newton of Whitby, told her he discovered fire ants eating monarch eggs "almost as soon as they were laid."
