NEW PICKLEBALL COURTS COMING TO PORT HOPE
New pickleball courts are coming to Port Hope in late summer after the municipality received a capital grant for $141,300 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Ontario government.
The grant will cover the costs of three outdoor pickleball courts. A decision on the courts' location will be made in the coming months, it was explained.
The grant announcement was made by Northumberland-peterborough South MPP David Piccini, who was joined by Port Hope Mayor Olena Hankivsky,
at the Town Park Recreation Centre in March.
"With this funding, everyone in our community will have a new, exciting way to stay active," said Piccini, in a news release. "Port Hope residents will benefit greatly from these new courts, and I'm looking forward to getting shovels in ground in the coming months."
By providing the opportunity to play in Port Hope, residents will no longer need to travel to nearby communities for pickleball, explained officials. The dedicated outdoor courts will be available seven
days a week from dawn until dusk from May to October to address increasing demand for outdoor activities.
Hankivsky thanked the province for its generous support to add the courts in the community.
"The new courts will help us to continue to promote safe recreation and social engagement in the community, particularly for our older adult residents. We welcome this new addition to our recreation offerings and look forward to the grand opening of the new space later this year," said Hankivsky.
