MUNICIPAL STAFF RECOMMEND COUNCIL ENTER INTO SITE PLAN AMENDMENT AGREEMENT TO PERMIT DEVELOPMENT
It's looking like a site plan amendment application involving a Shoppers Drug Mart addition and expansion to the garden centre area at Port Hope's Independent Grocer is advancing.
JUST THE FACTS:
• Municipal staff recently recommended council enter into an amended site plan agreement with Choice Properties REIT Ontario Limited to permit the proposal at 20 Jocelyn St.
• The proposal involves an addition on
the north side of the supermarket to accommodate a standalone Shoppers, and an expansion to the accessory outdoor display and sales area for the seasonal garden centre area.
• Council will put a bylaw to a vote to authorize the agreement at an upcoming meeting. The proposal did recently get council's support during its latest April committee-of-the-whole meeting.
• The subject lands are located on the
north side of Jocelyn, west of Henderson Street and east of Toronto Road. In addition to the supermarket, there is a gas bar kiosk at the site; no changes are proposed in the gas bar area.
• The proposed Shoppers will have a gross floor area of 1,379 square metres and a building height of 6.4 metres. The proposed seasonal garden centre area (operating April to July) is 1,824 square metres.
• Staff estimate the proposed addition
will generate $71,000 in municipal tax revenues annually.
