Welland Affordable Rental Housing Community Improvement Plan

You are invited to attend a Statutory Public Meeting under the Planning Act concerning the adoption an Affordable Rental Housing Community Improvement Plan for the City of Welland.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at 7 p.m., in Council Chambers, Civic Square, 60 East Main St.

The proposed Affordable Rental Housing Community Improvement Plan is intended to provide financial incentives and promote the creation of affordable rental housing. The Community Improvement Plan targets several areas of development in order to provide a broad range of assistance that will cater to the needs of those stakeholders. The Community Improvement Plan provides programs that are accessible to private developers, private citizens, and non-profit organizations.

The Affordable Rental Housing Community Improvement Plan will apply to a Community Improvement Area that encompasses the shaded area shown on the map reproduced below. A copy of the Affordable Rental Housing Community Improvement Plan is available for public review during regular business hours in the Planning Division, Planning and Development Services. You are invited to attend the Public Meeting which represents the formal Statutory Public Meeting under the provisions of Section 17 of the Planning Act and is being held to inform you about the City’s Affordable Rental Housing Community Improvement Plan and to provide you with an opportunity to comment on the proposed Plan. To participate virtually, please contact the City Clerk, Tara Stephens at clerk@ welland.ca no later than 12 p.m., on June 16, 2023, to be provided with a link to participate. Comments may be provided verbally and/or as a written submission. If a person or public body does not make oral submissions at the Public Meeting or make written submissions to the City of the Welland before the Affordable Rental Housing Community Improvement Plan is adopted, the Ontario Land Tribunal may dismiss all or part of the appeal filed against the decision of the City of Welland in respect of the adoption of the Plan.

If a person or public body does not make oral submissions at the Public Meeting or make written submissions to the City of the Welland before the Affordable Rental Housing Community Improvement Plan is adopted, the person or public body may not be added as a party to the hearing of an appeal before the Ontario Land Tribunal unless, in the opinion of the Tribunal, there are reasonable grounds to add the person or public body as a party.

If you wish to be notified of the decision of the City of Welland on the Proposed Affordable Rental Housing Community Improvement Plan you must make a written request to the Planning Supervisor — Policy, as listed above.
