REALITY CHECK NEEDED

ROB JANSSEN LINCOLN

During her recent State of the Town address Mayor

Easton expressed an optimistic vision for the Town of Lincoln. It is easy to be optimistic at taxpayers' expense. Niagara residents are under a spend and tax assault by an out of control Ottawa, Niagara Regional Government and now also the Town of Lincoln.

The C.D. How Institute reported the Niagara Region as being one of the worst financially run regional governments in Canada, lacking complete accountability and transparency to the taxpayer.

Lincoln taxpayers expect responsible financial leadership from their municipal government in this difficult economical time by not increasing spending with money they don't have. Doing so will result in higher taxes again.

Mayor Easton, together with a few councillors, voted to increase Lincoln's debentures to pay for two postponed road reconstruction projects, and so increasing the tax burden on already over taxed Lincoln residents.

Thankfully this motion was rejected by a majority of councillors. Lincoln is already spending a fortune on new vehicles and equipment like there is no tomorrow. The Mayor and these councillors need a reality check and residents need to hold them accountable.
