Whether you have a penchant for pickleball or a hankering for a hike, there's plenty to do to get active in Pelham.

And the town is encouraging residents to get active in June as a part of 30 for 30 and track the minutes spent on whatever activity they chose. There is a wide range of activities that residents to try for free, including sports such as pickleball, tennis, lacrosse, ringette and more throughout the month at various locations around town. A calendar with a full list of activities is available at www.pelham.ca.

"It's a good way to highlight all the ways people can be active in Pelham," said Leah Letford, communications specialist for the town. "We started it three years ago. It's good to see it continue to evolve."

Residents are also being encouraged to make use of recreational trails in town.

It's all a part of the town's bid to become ParticipAction's national challenge to find Canada's most active city. The winning municipality will receive $100,000 for local initiatives that promote physical activity. Prizes will also be awarded to the top community in each province and territory.

"We were lucky to receive some funding from ParticipAction to offer this month of free activities," said Brittany MacLeod, the town's active living programmer. "It's a great opportunity for the community to get to try programs or activities they've never tried before."

She added that it is also an opportunity for residents already involved to introduce their friends to what the town has to offer.

Over the course of June, residents can track their activity minutes using the ParticipAction app that can be downloaded from the App Store (iPhone) and Google Play (Android).

In addition to logging minutes via the ParticipAction app, minutes can also be logged by calling 905-732-7886 or via email to rcwstudent@pelham.ca, Letford said, adding that while all activities are free, some, such as ringette on June 10 and the cultural roots of lacrosse workshop require registration in advance.
