STAIRS PROVIDE NEEDED PUBLIC ACCESS TO BEACH

Re. Port Dalhousie staircase to the lake requires more repair dollars, March 10:

I am writing in support of St. Catharines city council funding the replacement of the stairs to access Lake Ontario at Masefield Avenue, as well as the repair and maintenance of stairs that enhance public access to the water at several locations in Port Dalhousie.

These previously approved initiatives have stalled.

Maintaining public access stairs at several locations will not only decrease congestion of the Port Dalhousie core, but allow neighbourhood community members to gather, enjoy exercise, water sports and cooling activities on the hot summer days, which are increasing in number with climate change.

I support initiatives that increase public access to green space; walking paths, bike paths, and stairs to the lake, provide opportunities to engage in activities that enhance the mental health and physical well being of the community.
