An artist's love of the natural world will be on full display in an upcoming showcase at the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre.

More than 13 pieces from Niagara-on-the-Lake artist Marilyn Cochrane will be included in her hometown exhibit.

Cochrane embraces the natural world by using various pieces taken from the earth.

"The natural world presents great and beautiful complexities, and I am attempting to honour this by going further than traditional painting," she said.

Cochrane's solo exhibit, Landscape Reflections, runs from June 1 to 26 in the arts centre's Joyner Gallery. The public can attend a meet-and-greet held at the gallery June 5 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The exhibit will be a chance for Cochrane to display her unique paintings and tabletop sculptures.

On display will also be her Wall Jewels. This piece of art contains paint, mixed media sculpture, minerals, and crystals to create an alluring jewellery-like ornament.

"I aim to welcome the viewer into a world of beauty, peace and meditation, expressed by the dreamlike landscape paintings and the ancient, glittering crystals and minerals," she said.

Cochrane's work displays the landscape by using multiple layers of colour glazes.

"The added depth and light-reflecting qualities allude to a hidden realm beyond the seen," she said.
