The Shoebox Project for Women is celebrating its 10th anniversary this holiday season and will be accepting physical donations after conducting last year's campaign under a virtual format due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Created in 2011 by members of the Mulroney family (sisters-in-law Caroline, Jessica, Vanessa and Katy), the Shoebox Project is a national initiative that raises and delivers shoeboxes full of small gifts such as makeup, skin care products, toiletries, chocolates, warm clothing, gift cards and a special message of encouragement to women who are homeless,

or at risk of becoming homeless.

Linda Bruce and Denise Connolly run the Mississauga chapter of the program and are encouraging residents to assemble gift boxes containing $50worth of items women might enjoy during the holiday season. There is also the option of making a virtual donation through the Shoebox Project's website.

People looking to donate can do so up until Friday, Dec. 10. Locations and operating hours of gift box drop-off centres can be found on the Mississauga chapter's website.

Last year's campaign raised enough money to provide 2,000 gifts to 29 women's shelters and other organizations across Mississauga.

More information on the Mississauga Shoebox Project can be found on its Facebook and Instagram pages.
