NEED RE-EDUCATION IN CANADA'S HISTORY

Re: Province initiates anti-racism anti-hate grant program (Oct. 7).

Being a target of hate myself, having witnessed an unprovoked hateful act on a bus, and as an aftermath of the London, Ont. incident (in which a Muslim family was allegedly murdered on June 6 this year), I urge politicians and the government to start taking concrete and ongoing action — not just lip service — to re-educate the ignorant few (both young and old) of the true history of Canada and how it came to be.

White supremacy is rooted in the colonization, exploitation, use and abuse of Indigenous peoples all over the world in centuries past, in addition to the cruelly forcible kidnapping of African people from their homeland for slavery purposes.

The crazy belief that only certain people are the privileged ones to inhabit this country is disgusting and preposterous, and it is imperative to correct those who hold this belief, upfront and instantly. They need to be told how historically wrong they are.

The fact of the matter is, with the exception of the Indigenous people, each and every one of us is an immigrant — ancestrally or otherwise. However, some deliberately insist on continuing to perpetrate a harmful and immoral lie to satisfy their own fragile egos.
