WOMAN SUFFERS 'LIFE-ALTERING' INJURIES IN CHEMICAL ATTACK

A Quebec woman is facing charges in connection with what Halton police are calling a 'chemical attack' in Milton March 9.

The incident occurred around 1:25 p.m., when a Milton woman was walking in the area of Syer Drive and Maxted Crescent, where she was approached by a woman on foot.

The woman threw an unknown chemical onto the victim, which caused "severe burns to her face and body," Halton police said in a news release.

The woman then took the victim's cell phone and fled the scene.

The victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She is currently in stable condition at the hospital, but the injuries sustained are "life-altering," police said.

Through investigation, police were able to identify a suspect and allege she is a family member of the victim.

Investigators made an arrest in Montreal.

A 57-year-old Quebec woman has been charged with aggravated assault, administering a noxious substance and robbery.

She has been held in custody pending a bail hearing. The charges have not been proven in court.

In order to protect the identity of the victim, and for respect of the privacy of the family, police will not be identifying the accused or providing further details.
