HOSPITALS RECEIVE $20,000 DONATION
Milton District Hospital and Georgetown Hospital have received $20,000 from the RBC Foundation — as part of National Nursing Week — to provide nurses with mental health support and technical training.
"We are so grateful to the RBC Foundation for providing this grant to support nursing education.
“Nurses are central to the care that our patients receive; their critical role in this pandemic has highlighted this fact," Janet Skupsky, chief operating officer of Milton District Hospital, said in a media release.
The funding will enable six to 10 nurses to increase and enhance their skills through training, courses, conferences, and continuing education such as pursuing masters of nursing degrees, she said.
The pandemic has had a profound impact on nurses who seek mental health support
more than other front-line workers, according to data from Ontario Health and Mental Health Research Canada cited in the release.
"Our goal with these donations is to help ensure our nurses — who always answer
the call — not only feel appreciated, but also have the resources and support they need to continue the great work they do for all of us," said Melanie Renon, regional vice-president, central shores, RBC.
The funding to support
Georgetown and Milton nurses is part of the foundation's overall donation of $120,000 to 13 local hospital foundations this year to support nurses in Halton, Grey, Bruce, HuronPerth, Oxford and Dufferin counties.
