SEVENTH STREET IS BEING RECONSTRUCTED DUE TO DECAYING UNDERGROUND INFRASTRUCTURE

The Town of Midland is reconstructing Seventh Street between Yonge Street and Hugel Avenue.

JUST THE FACTS

• Seventh Street is being reconstructed due to decaying underground infrastructure.

• Staff moved the project forward after finding a 10- to 15-metre section of sanitary sewer partially caved in during a routine inspection last fall.

• The 67-year-old sewer line is made of clay and staff were unsure how long it would function before fully collapsing.

• A 380-metre section of Seventh Street will be reconstructed, concrete curbs will be installed and a sidewalk will be added on the west boulevard.

• Sanitary sewer lines, water mains and the lateral service pipes under this stretch of road will all be replaced.

• The project was allocated $2 million in the 2022 capital budget.

• During construction, Mundy's Bay Public School morning drop off will occur on Sixth Street and afternoon pickup on Seventh Street. Parents are asked to use Fifth and Eighth Street for pickup and drop off.

• Construction is expected to be completed by September.
