Midland is now home to a new family physician.

Dr. Alia Ali has opened up a new family medicine practice and taken over the practice of Dr. Richard Thomas.

"I am very excited to contribute to both family health and women's health, while also practising medicine at GBGH (Georgian Bay General Hospital)," said Ali. "During my short time in Midland so far, I have really enjoyed the area and all it has to offer. I am looking forward to contributing to the health and well-being of the community."

Originally from Pakistan, Ali moved to Canada in 2012 with her husband and two children. She completed medical school in Pakistan, where she also did four years of residency focused on obstetrics and gynecology.

Prior to moving to Ontario, Ali lived in Alberta and worked as a surgical assistant. She completed two years of family medicine training at the University of Calgary and one year of obstetrical surgical skills training at the University of Manitoba before moving to Midland.

Ali also took on a limited number of new patients. However, after receiving an overwhelming response from the community

she had to close her patient list and is not accepting any new patients at this time.
