The May 2-4 long weekend: it's a rite of passage, a time for us to usher in all of the joys of a Canadian summer — friends, sun, fun and, of course, cold beverages.

Here's a look at what's open and closed in York Region on Victoria Day:

OPEN

•Hillcrest Mall, Markville Mall, Promenade Mall and Upper Canada Mall will all be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 23. The Pacific Mall will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

• Some The Beer Store locations in Ontario will be open Victoria Day. Visit www.thebeerstore.ca or contact your local store to see if it will be among them.

• YRT (York Region Transit) will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule on Victoria Day.

CLOSED

RETAIL

• LCBO stores will be closed on Monday, May 23. Where permitted by local municipalities, some LCBO convenience outlets may observe their regular hours of business on Victoria Day.

CANADA POST

You should verify with your local Canada Post office for the exact holiday hours if you are working with any urgent mail delivery.

However, post offices operated by the private sector will be open according to the hours of service of the host business.
