OMEMEE DOWNTOWN CONSTRUCTION SET TO RESUME MID-APRIL

CATHERINE WHITNALL cwhitnall@mykawartha.com

Preparations are underway for round two of the Diggin' Downtown Omemee construction project.

Weather permitting, the project is tentatively set to resume the week of April 10 and continue through to July.

In advance of the restart, the contractor will be on site Monday (March 27) to replace the poles of the traffic lights at the King Street and Sturgeon Road intersection. Both lanes of traffic will remain open for this part of the project. Slight delays can be expected; a police officer will be present to direct traffic when needed.

The scope of the project is a full reconstruction of King Street (Highway 7) in downtown Omemee including replacements of storm sewers, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and streetscape improvements.

The majority of the underground and road reconstruction work took place from September to December, then was suspended over the winter.

The spring work will start with the replacement of storm sewers within the intersection of King Street and Sturgeon Road and the replacement of storm sewers between James Street and Sturgeon Road.

Road reconstruction, concrete curb, concrete sidewalk, and streetscape improvement work will follow.

Detours will be in place, however, local businesses will remain open during construction. Residents and visitors are encouraged to continue to support them throughout the reconstruction project.

As previously announced, the project will be substantially funded by the Ministry of Transportation's 2022-23 connecting links program, with the municipality funding the remaining costs.
