Sediment control, infiltration trenches and rainwater harvesting.
Those were some of the terms Innisfil residents heard over the past month during a series of three public open houses designed to get feedback for updating the town's stormwater and flooding plans.
"With this round of master plan updates, we were looking to add a more holistic look at flooding concerns across town," Jessica
Jenkins, the town's manager of capital engineering, told Simcoe.com.
"That's why this is an important undertaking — we're trying to take a more proactive approach," Jenkins said from inside the Innisfil IdeaLAB and Library in Cookstown during the third open house.
Next steps include another public engagement in the summer and staff said they aim to have proposals for the Stormwater Management Master Plan update and Flooding Strategy before council for a decision by fall 2023.
At the open houses, town staff had posters that listed their plans, boards where residents could place stickers on what solutions they liked most and a large map that locals could mark as to where they saw issues in the community related to flooding.
"We're not only trying to identify areas of concern and challenge that we're facing but also look at different proposed solutions and get feedback from the public on those," Jenkins said.
