BARRIE-INNISFIL NDP CANDIDATE PEKKA REINIO

THIS IS REINIO'S SECOND TIME RUNNING AS A NDP CANDIDATE

SHANE MACDONALD shanemacdonald@ simcoe.com

CANDIDATE NAME: Pekka Reinio

RIDING: Barrie-Innisfil

PARTY: Ontario New Democratic Party

AGE: 54

OCCUPATION: Educator

RESIDENCE: Barrie

PAST POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: I am the president of the Barrie-Innisfil NDP riding association and a longtime community advocate running to provide real leadership and a voice for families, children and seniors. This election will be my second time running as the provincial NDP candidate for Barrie-Innisfil. I am a proud union member and

former political action committee chair for my local union.

HOW WOULD YOU GRADE THE PROVINCE'S COVID-19 RESPONSE AND WHY?: (Candidate did not provide letter grade). The Ford government has let Ontarians down when it comes to its pandemic response. Because Doug Ford refused to make investments to make schools safer like smaller class sizes and ventilation, Ontario schools were closed for 26 weeks, longer than any jurisdiction in North America. The Ford/ Khanjin government failed to protect seniors in long-term care, including at Barrie's Roberta Place. Ford chose not to invest in hiring more PSWs, and to let for-profit operators cut corners on infection control. Ford/Khanjin favoured big box stores over our struggling small businesses. They capped heroic nurses' wages with their unfair Bill 124.

IF ELECTED, I PLEDGE TO ... I've heard over and over that residents are looking for a representative that will speak on their behalf. If elected, I will be advocating for seniors, families and children for affordable homes, improved health care, strengthening public education, investing in seniors care, protecting Lake Simcoe, as well as our agricultural sector.
