My death occurred peacefully on March 10, 2023, as per my wishes - at Chartwell Anne Hathaway Retirement Residence, Stratford. Predeceased by my wife Audrey Pearl (Bain/1928-2013). We were married on June 25, 1960, and spent 53 wonderful years together. Survived by my son Donald and his wife Joan (Piller) and granddaughter Elisabeth Dorrance.

I was born on September 22, 1931, the son of Norman Russell (1888-1950) and Ila May (Johnson/1890-1983) Dorrance, at Seaforth, Ontario. I attended public school at SS#4, McKillop and graduated from Seaforth District Highschool. I briefly attended Stratford Normal School but realized it was not for me. It was then, I went to HB Beal Technical School in London. I worked first at Towland Construction Co. and then Empire Brass before joining The Department of Highways, Ontario - retiring after 33 years of service working in London and Kenora, where I had met Audrey.

We lived in Burlington and Huntsville throughout our years together. In retirement I worked at Bert French & Son and then 16 seasons in the pro shop at Huntsville Downs Golf Course. I was a member of the Muskoka Seniors Club and Muskoka/Parry Sound Genealogy Group. Living the last five years in Stratford. My cremation is entrusted to Rutherford Cremation & Funeral Services, Stratford 519-271-5062. My remains along with Audrey's will be interred in Maitlandbank Cemetery, Seaforth, Ontario. Passed away peacefully on February 27, 2023, at Algonquin Grace Residential Hospice in Huntsville at the age of 92. Jack was born on January 15, 1931, in Toronto, Ontario to parents Joseph Edward Smales and Lillian Violet (nee Parkes) Smales. Jack married his beloved wife, Carole Mae (nee McClure) Smales on June 23, 1956, and would spend 67 years together. Dear father of Dean (Gwen), Donald (Katie) and Cheryl (Bill). Loving grandfather to Hilary, Chelsea (Justan), J.D., Kennedy, Zachary, Roy and Fraser. Proud great-grandfather to Tessa, Brody, Ben, Melody, Tate and Daisy. Dear brother of the late Don Smales. Growing up in New Toronto, Jack loved going to the movies, cars, and thoroughbred horses. He would spend many hours at the local racetrack helping with the racehorses. He loved big band music, dancing, animals, sports, food and travel. Jack was always very bright and had a mind for business and helping others from a very young age. His combination of Business sense, work ethic, ingenuity, and kindness inspired many over the years. This is reflected in his career in the workforce with many businesses including the hardware industry that spanned 72
