NUIT BLANCHE NORTH RETURNING TO HUNTSVILLE

DEADLINE FOR ARTIST PROPOSALS MARCH 31

The Huntsville Festival of the Arts (HfA) is seeking artist proposals for the 11th edition of Nuit Blanche North on July 22.

Recognized as a signature Huntsville event, Nuit Blanche North is an interactive, multi-arts street festival in downtown Huntsville. For one night only, from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., the Huntsville streets will come alive with a program of contemporary artistic activities, events and exhibits taking place in unconventional places in and around the downtown core.

The deadline for artist proposals is March 31 at 5 p.m. Projects should encourage audiences to explore, discover, debate and participate in contemporary art and the public spaces that surround them.

This year's theme is "And That's When Everything Changed." There is so much that is changing in the world around us and in our own personal lives. While change is an essential part of existence, the current forces and events in our world seem to be increasing the speed of these changes, a statement reads.

The festival is inviting projects that respond to the notion of change: the forces that spur these changes, the opportunities that present themselves, and how we can individually and collectively encounter these changes. HfA says they are particularly interested in projects that involve the participation of community members or visitors to the event. Priority will be given to those projects which explore this theme in relation to the Parry Sound-Muskoka region.

Any venue in the downtown core is possible. Local businesses and cultural and religious institutions are encouraged to join by opening their doors and offering free access to contemporary art.

Applications can be downloaded at nuitblanchenorth.com. Anyone interested in learning more can contact Hannah Naiman, director of programs, education and outreach for HfA at 705-788-2787 or email hannah@huntsvillefestival.ca.
