HUNTSVILLE COMPANY AWARDS TWO SCHOLARSHIPS

Two Huntsville High School students are getting some financial help to reach their academic goals.

Kimberly-Clark announced on May 5 that Grace Gaughan and Chloe Punkari are the recipients of its 2022 Bright Futures Scholarships. The company has a tissue manufacturing facility in the town.

Gaughan plans to attend the University of Ottawa, while Punkari is heading to the University of Toronto.

"We are excited that Kimberly-Clark is supporting the Huntsville family by awarding two of our students with scholarships," said April Burke, plant manager. "On behalf of the Huntsville mill, we would like to congratulate Grace and Chloe for their accomplishments. We wish them well in their studies."

According to the May 5 press release, Bright Futures provides scholarship grants worth up to $20,000, or $5,000 per school year, to children of Kimberly-Clark employees in North America for 30 years.

"Recipients are selected based on academic performance, community service, work experience, and involvement in extracurricular activities. This year, Kimberly-Clark has awarded Bright Futures scholarships totalling $980,000 to 49 students in the United States and Canada. Since its inception, the program has granted $46 million in scholarships to nearly 2,300 students."

The company release stated that the average GPA for this year's scholarship class is 3.96.

"Awardees will attend leading colleges and universities, including Purdue University, the University of Notre Dame, and the University of Wisconsin. Past scholarship recipients have gone on to pursue successful careers in medicine, education, the armed forces, and engineering," according to the release.
