THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT OUR RIDING

THE RIDING

Parry Sound—Muskoka covers a vast geography, but has a modest population. It covers 14,402 square kilometres and has a population of 104,494 people (as of the 2021 census). There are 82,579 names on the electors list.

Within the riding, there are 52,010 people who identify as female and 52,480 who identify as male, of which 12,505 are under the age of 14, 61,335 are aged 15 to 64 and 30,650 are over the age of 65.

Although our newspapers and websites cover 30 municipalities in the region, the major municipalities listed on Elections Ontario are Huntsville, Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Muskoka Lakes, Lake of Bays, Parry Sound, Seguin, McDougall, Whitestone, McKellar, Kearney, Georgian Bay, McMurrich-Monteith, Ryerson, Strong,

Archipelago, Burk's Falls, South River, Sundridge, Armour, Machar, Carling, Joly and Perry.

THE ISSUES

The top issues are: the shortage of attainable housing, access to local health care, the increasing cost of living, the environment, access to public transit, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

BACKGROUND

Retiring Progressive Conservative MPP Norman Miller has represented Parry Sound— Muskoka since 2001. In the 2018 provincial election, Miller took 48.07 per cent of all the vote; the NDP were in second place with 22.03 per cent, the Green Party in third at 20.02 per cent, and the Liberal party in fourth with 8.64 per cent.
