WOMEN OF SPIRIT AWARDS RETURN

The Women's Canadian Club of Hamilton will present the second Woman of Spirit Award at a luncheon ceremony on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at noon at the Courtyard by Marriott Hamilton.

The Honourable Neil Lumsden, Ontario minister of tourism, culture and sport, will appear as the guest speaker.

The Woman of Spirit Award highlights and celebrates the varied achievements of an extraordinary woman from the Greater Hamilton Area who exemplifies the spirit of Irene MacDonald.

MacDonald, born and raised in Hamilton, was a champion diver, coach and broadcaster. She was the first Canadian Olympic medallist in diving, inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame and named to the Order of British Columbia.

The 2022 Woman of Spirit Award nominees are:

• Ona Allan, registered nurse (retired), Hamilton General Hospital

• Barbara Baxter, co-director of the Learning Centre for Hamilton

• Teresa Franciosa, volunteer for Food 4 Kids and Hamilton FoodShare

• Nhlaloenhle Ndawana, executive director, Hamilton Urban Core

• Marilyn Repchuck, president of the Duet Club of Hamilton

• Charaya Thach, board chair at the YWCA Hamilton
